Sub-ID tracking: know which placement actually converted
Affiliates pass their own identifiers on every click — traffic source, placement, creative, keyword, audience. AffClix records up to ten sub-IDs per click, carries them through to the conversion, and lets you report, pay and route on each one.
How sub-IDs flow through a conversion
- Affiliate appends sub-IDs to the linkTheir tracking link carries sub_aff1 to sub_aff10 — for example sub_aff1=facebook&sub_aff2=adset_42&sub_aff3=video_b.
- AffClix stores them on the clickEvery sub-ID is saved with the click, alongside ad-platform click IDs such as gclid, fbclid, ttclid and msclkid when they are present.
- The conversion inherits themWhen the advertiser's postback arrives, the conversion is joined to its click, so the sub-IDs are attached to the sale, lead or install.
- Sub-IDs go back to the affiliateUse {sub_aff1}…{sub_aff10} macros in the affiliate's postback URL so their own tracker or ad platform learns which placement converted.
What you can do with sub-IDs
Break reports down by sub-ID
Group clicks, conversions, revenue and payout by any sub-ID slot to see which source or creative pays for itself.
Filter to a single placement
Filter any report to one sub-ID value to audit a traffic source before scaling or cutting it.
Pay by sub-ID
Use sub-ID values as conditions in payout rules — a different CPA for one sub-source, or a bonus for a proven placement.
Route and target by sub-ID
Sub-ID values are available as targeting conditions, so a campaign or smart link can include or exclude specific sources.
Advertiser sub-IDs too
Advertisers can return up to six of their own values (sub_adv1–sub_adv6) on the conversion — order type, plan, SKU — for reporting on their side of the funnel.
Pass-back in postbacks
Sub-ID and click-ID macros are resolved in outbound postbacks, so an affiliate's own tracker receives the same identifiers it sent — including ad-platform click IDs.
Who relies on sub-ID tracking
Media buyers
Tag campaign, ad set and creative on every click, then cut the placements that do not convert before they burn budget.
Affiliate networks
See which sub-sources inside a publisher are driving quality, and cap or block a bad one without banning the whole partner.
Advertisers
Audit where your conversions come from — and pay a different rate for the sources that bring the customers you want.
Frequently asked questions
What is a sub-ID in affiliate marketing?
A sub-ID is an extra parameter an affiliate adds to their tracking link to label the click — for example the traffic source, campaign, ad or keyword. The tracking platform stores it with the click and the conversion, so performance can be broken down below the affiliate level.
How many sub-IDs does AffClix support?
Ten affiliate sub-IDs per click (sub_aff1 to sub_aff10) and six advertiser sub-IDs per conversion (sub_adv1 to sub_adv6).
Can I pass sub-IDs back to the affiliate?
Yes. Use the {sub_aff1} to {sub_aff10} macros in the affiliate's postback URL and the values from the original click are filled in when the conversion fires.
Do links that use the older sub_aff_id parameters still work?
Yes. The legacy sub_aff_id1 to sub_aff_id6 parameters are still accepted, so links your affiliates already published keep recording their sub-IDs.
Can payouts depend on a sub-ID?
Yes. Sub-ID values can be used as conditions in payout and targeting rules, so you can pay or route one sub-source differently from the rest of a partner's traffic.
