1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognise your device on subsequent visits and store information about your preferences or actions.
Similar technologies include:
- Local storage / session storage: Browser-side storage used for application state.
- Web beacons / pixels: Tiny invisible images embedded in web pages or emails to track opens and page loads.
- Fingerprinting: Collecting device characteristics (browser type, screen size, installed fonts, etc.) to create a statistical identifier — used by our fraud detection engine only, not for marketing.
- Click IDs: URL parameters appended to affiliate links (e.g.,
?click_id=xxx) that persist in the URL for attribution purposes.
2. How We Use Cookies

8. Affiliate Tracking Pixels & Click IDs
To understand how fraud impacts attribution accuracy, read our click fraud prevention guide, which explains how invalid traffic is detected and blocked in real-time affiliate tracking systems.
Affiliate tracking is the core functionality of AffClix. Unlike traditional marketing tools, we use specialised tracking mechanisms designed for performance marketing attribution:
AffClix does not rely on third-party cookies for attribution. Instead, we use a combination of click IDs, server-to-server (S2S) postbacks, and privacy-safe tracking methods to ensure accurate conversion tracking — even in cookie-restricted environments such as Safari and iOS.
- Click tracking: When an end-user clicks an affiliate link, AffClix's redirect server logs a click event including timestamp, IP address (anonymised after processing), user agent, and a randomly generated click ID. No persistent cookie is set in the end-user's browser by default.
- Conversion pixels: A 1×1 transparent image or JavaScript snippet fires when a conversion event occurs on the advertiser's website, passing the click ID for attribution matching. No personal data beyond the click ID is transmitted unless the advertiser has configured custom parameters.
- S2S postbacks: Server-to-server postbacks exchange conversion data between the advertiser's server and AffClix's servers. No browser storage is used.
Network operators using AffClix are responsible for including appropriate cookie notices and obtaining consent from their end-users for any tracking conducted through the platform, in compliance with applicable laws (including ePrivacy Directive requirements).
